Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Buzzwords for Romance Titles

For today’s theme I focused on bookish buzzwords for romance titles and I’m sharing seven of which will make me want to pick up a title and three of which don’t really hold much interest for me as a reader! What I love is that even within a specific genre, there is such a wide variety of writing, there’s something for everyone! Check out some of my favorites from this post, this one, and this one too!

Bookish Buzzwords I Look For

  • Meet Cute
I love an adorable meeting between protagonists! All those 90s and early 2000s romance movies set me up for this, I’m certain.
  • Enemies-to-lovers
Love and hate are often two sides of the same coin, and I love watching the progression from enemies to lovers.
  • Slow Burn
The anticipation of two characters getting together is so fun to read!
  • Grumpy/Sunshine
While I don’t think anyone can change someone else, I do like the transition from a grump to someone who enjoys another’s company!
  • Fake Relationships
I love this little trope of faking a relationship and then catching feelings.
  • HEA
Happily Ever After, need I say more?
  • Contemporary Romance
I tend to read contemporary romance, most which fit a very specific style – bright covers with illustrated couples on the cover. If you’ve seen one, you’ve probably seen dozens, but it’s what I’m drawn to!

Bookish Buzzwords That Don’t Interest Me

  • Romantasy
I’m not a big fantasy reader in general, and I’m not into the fae world and crossing that with romance novels in general.
  • Dark Romance
These types of romance novels are a little too much for what I’m looking for. As you probably have seen from my list above, I’m looking for light, fun stories with happily ever afters!
  • Love Triangle
I feel like this trope is used far too often and not always well. After the multiple YA series with love triangles at the center, I’m kind of over it.

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
