Storytime Theme: Seasons

While I’ve done different seasonal storytimes in the past, I haven’t yet created a lesson plan specifically for the seasons as a whole. So, here we go! I found some great read alouds about the changing of the seasons someof whicih are fictional stories, while others are more nonfiction titles. What’s great about including nonfiction in a storytime is that you can model to parents and caregivers how to use nonfiction books with a younger audience. Maybe you only pick a few pages to read, or a read the larger print, leaving the details for an older audience.

There are some great nonfiction books geared toward a younger audience and I think it opens up an entirely new area of books for caregivers to share with their little ones. Gail Gibbons is one of the most prolific nonfiction picture book writers – she’s been writing since the 70s and many of her older nonfiction titles have been revised and updated in recent years like The Reasons for the Seasons.

There’s also a plethora of both songs and crafts about the seasons, so you have a wide variety to choose from, I’ve included just a few examples for you to see, but you can easily do a search to find more options if you’re looking for something a little different. So, no matter what the season, this storytime lesson plan is ready for you!
