Books & Cooks Letter K: Kaffir Lime Leaves

This year I’m going to be combining two of my passions – cooking and kid lit for Books & Cooks! I’ll be bringing you great recipes based on spices of the alphabet that pair perfectly with kid lit books! Next up? The letter K and lemony-lime tasting Kaffir Lime leaves!

Books & Cooks Letter K: Kaffir Lime Leaves

Spice: Kaffir Lime Leaves

Kaffir Lime leaves are not very commonly coooked with here in the U.S. (at least that I’m aware of). But you can find them both on Amazon and I found them to be available at Wegman’s too. Kaffir lime leaves both smell and taste very citrus-y like lemon, lime and mandarin all mixed together! It’s a fun new ingredient that you can explore!

Book Review: Hush! A Thai Lullaby by Minfong Ho

I love how universal some themes are – especially bedtime themes. In this Thai lullaby, a mom asks a few animals to be very quiet so as not to wake up her baby. Being that it is Thai-based the animals are ones we don’t typically see in children’s books here in the U.S. – a monkey, lizard, and water buffalo. This is a sweet story that I’ve used in storytimes with a large group and it works very well!

Recipe: Thai Style Fried Rice

This fresh, fried rice looks not only easy to pull together but also extremely delicious! With red curry paste and fish sauce, plus the addition of kaffir lime leaves, this dish is sure to have a deep rich flavor!

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge 2020. For my theme this year (Books & Cooks), I’ll be combing children’s books with cooking spices and including a recipe to bring the book into your very own kitchen! I love to cook and read, so I thought this would be a fun way to combine two of my passions. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Let’s dig in! And if you want to see what I’ve done in the past, check out the past few years – 201620172018, and 2019!
