Slice of Life Day 3: Garage Renovation
I would never renovate a garage over other spaces in my house, unless I absolutely had to. But that’s what’s been happening for the past few months. We had a major storm in August that left the manhole on the street dislodged, flooding our split level home – through the crawlspace, lower level living room and garage. Thankfully, my partner and I were both home at the time and were able to get the water out in about 4 hours or so. But, it’s amazing the damage that 2 inches of standing water can do to a home. We had to rip up a vinyl flooring in the living room, take down drywall and pull out insulation.

After the past two days of priming and painting the drywall, my arms, back, neck, and hands are horribly sore. But, the garage is looking absolutely beautiful and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished. Hopefully, when all the stuff is back in the garage, it will still look just as good!
The Slice of Life Challenge is something new I’m trying this month! I’ll be posting brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. A slice of my life as a librarian and blogger that I hope you enjoy!

Wow! SO impressive that you’re doing so much of this on your own. Thank goodness your arms were not too sore for a little writing. Good luck.

A garage renovation is like getting a new roof – it’s not a fun way to spend money. 🙂 Your inability to raise your hands above your head reminded me of when I decided two summers ago that we should do a proper patio from our basement walk out and since I’m a teacher I could do the work myself. After hauling ALL those bricks from the front to the back we went to bed exhausted each night, but it looks great. I’m sure your garage will too!

What an enormous project! Kudos to you both for doing it yourselves. Impressive!

So brave of you to do the work yourself! Your alternative title made me laugh.. or why I can’t move my arms above my head right now… heehee

Post some pictures! We had a similar issue in our basement. It took forever to get the work done. The upside is we cleaned a lot of the junk out of the basement. Are the bedrooms warmer now with the new garage door and foam insulation?

I’m with you. A garage reno would not be on my to-do list unless it was an absolute necessity!

I know the feeling of having to do a not so fun project over something you’d rather do. It sounds like you are finding the bright side in the renovation.

Your first sentence answered my first question when I saw you blog title. “Garage renovation?” I wondered. While the rest of your slice reminded that projects like these nearly always take longer than expected, the details you shared paint a picture that your garage will soon be dialed in. Then, you can bask in the feeling of a job well done!

So impressed with your stamina for renovation and repair! It is crazy how much damage water can do in such a small amount of time. I hope that rest of it goes smoothly!
