Slice of Life: Home Improvements

I bought my house almost six years ago, knowing full well that I’d have to put in the time to do some minor renovations. I had no desire to spend thousands on kitchen and bathroom renos (although we did one bathroom). I’m talking mainly about painting and sprucing up rooms. But, when you buy a house you also buy all the problems that come with it. So, over the past five years or so we’ve replaced the furnace, bought all new windows and exterior doors, had the lower level flooded, renovated the entire garage, insulated the garage and crawl space and finally renovated the lower level. It’s been a lot. Today’s a sneak peek into a little slice of my life as I continue to work on home improvements!

But, now we’re getting to the last few rooms that haven’t been touched at all. There’s a small spare room on our second floor that is currently being used for its closet and dresser space because our master is too small for all of our clothes. It also has a twin bed and pull-out trundle for when family or friends come to visit. And I’m spending the better part of my weekend finally painting it!

Painting

These projects are never as easy as they should be. I’ve got paint chips showering from the ceiling, so that’s a whole thing. It was a kids’ room at one point with pushpins holes all over the walls. And it has water damage on the window sill. But, it’s definitely coming along. With a little more sanding this morning and rolling the wall paint, we might actually finish it by this evening. The paint color I chose is called After the Storm – a greenish blueish gray color that I fell in love with. All the trim and ceiling will be a bright white. Because it’s such a small room, I’m hoping the darker color makes it just feel super cozy. The bedding is white with a darker gray stripe, I’ve got a white and gray rug and the furniture is mainly honey tones.

Like I said the room is small and I’m having trouble figuring out the best way to lay it out, but here’s hoping that with a fresh coat of paint and a little TLC, it’s going to make it look as great as our other guest room (which is so relaxing and calming). I promise to share pictures when it’s complete!
