Story

Little Kit’s Wish is such a sweet picture book about a little fox learning to trust his heart. Once in a blue moon, the Lady of Light grants wishes to the forest animals and all of Little Kit’s friends and neighbors know exactly what they’re wishing for. But, how can Little Kit decide with so many wishes out there?

A snuggle from his mama and advice from his friends, helps him to trust himself to make a wish that ends of being the perfect wish for Little Kit.

I connected with this story so much! My mom has always told me to trust my head, trust my heart, and trust my gut – and that advice hasn’t steered me wrong yet. I loved seeing how this sweet little fox learned to trust himself to make a wish that meant he most to him. And after doing a little more research into Cheryl Lawton Malone, her website shares that she’s a children’s author (obviously) and also a poet. And that makes so much sense! There are thousands of children’s book authors in the world and each one brings their own unique spin to children’s books. But, you can often tell the picture book authors who are also poets – they have a certain way with words that just makes you take a pause to feel the story that much more.

Illustrations

And I’d be remiss to not talk about the gorgeous illustrations that accompany this beautiful story. The washes of watercolor just make this book so cozy and adorable. I mean, take a look at this spread, is beautiful! I love watercolors because they just blend so nicely together and while I dabble in the art myself, I am fascinated by artists who have truly mastered this craft. And Felipe Lancha certainly has. If you have moment, you can take a look at his Instagram where he has some behind the scenes videos of his work. The setting, timing, and colors make this the perfect bedtime book, but still give kids plenty to pour over while they’re listening to the story!

This book might be a little harder to find in a public library here in the U.S. as it’s published by an independent publisher out of the U.K. But, have no fear, you can purchase it from Amazon and I assure you, it’s worth adding to your own personal library! I want to thank Cheryl for sharing this heartwarming story with me!
