Activity Corner – Bake Cookies Day
It’s Bake Cookies Day! And if you celebrate Christmas, it’s a great day to get in the kitchen and make some yummy treats for Santa, the neighbors, or the family. Growing up, we made lots of different cookies during the Christmas holiday. Then my mom would make plates and we’d share them with all the neighbors. As one of four kids, my mom took the time each year to make a special cookie with each of us. My absolute favorite – 7 Layer Bars! They’re about as simple as you can get and can even be gluten-free if need be. They do have coconut, nuts, and sweetened condensed milk and butter, so you’d have to be a little more careful about those allergies.
We also spent an afternoon baking with family friends as well and it was a production! We made three different types of biscotti, truffles, and all sorts of cookies depending on the year. In fact, last year and last weekend we Zoom baked all together. It was kind of perfect because everyone could make what they wanted, there was no waiting for the oven, and we just got to hang out and chat over Zoom.
