9 More Middle Grade Novels in Verse

What I love most about novels in verse is the power that words have. In fact, this is an update to a previous middle grade novels in verse book list I created back in 2019. With such few words on the page, authors must choose every word even more carefully. And, as we become busier at work with summer reading in full swing, novels in verse are great suggestions. For all kids, honestly, but if you’re looking for suggestions for kids who may be more reluctant, novels in verse are wonderful choices.

With more white space and typically shorter books, they can be less intimidating to a child who doesn’t feel comfortable with a typical novel. And with novels in verse on so many different subjects, there’s sure to be one out there that works for many readers.
