Director’s Thoughts – 6/25/2021

It’s been almost six months since I’ve written a Director’s Thoughts post. As you can imagine, life has continued to throw us curveballs and I’m happy to say that I’m still standing at the plate (how’s that for a sports metaphor?) We officially started our Summer Reading Program on Monday and although it’s definitely had its ups and downs, I’ve got to give a HUGE shoutout to my Children’s Librarian for figuring out all the details. With significantly fewer staff, we’ve still been able to provide wonderful customer service to our patrons.

And we’ve been busy. Maybe not pre-pandemic busy, but busy compared to last month and especially busy compared to January and February. And honestly, right now, it’s a double-edged sword. I really could use a few more people on staff to help alleviate my scheduling nightmares. And, a lot of staff have taken time off in June which means that are already minimal staff is even smaller.

But, what I absolutely love is that we’re busy. As in families are coming into the library and asking for suggestions, signing up for programs, and the kids are so excited. It’s so great to see that after 15+ months, we still have a community that loves the library and supports us!

Our Summer Reading Program is eight weeks long, so we’ve got a long summer ahead of us. But, we’ve made it through (almost) a week, which is a great start!
