Literati Kids – April Box

You’ve got to check out Literati Kids – a subscription box service that caters just to kids (or adults that love kid lit too). Each box includes five expertly curated age-appropriate books, original art, personalized book-cessories, and more! Check out my post from February and March to see what was included in past months! And let’s take a look at my Literati Kids – April Box!

And what I love about it, is you can try out the books for a week. Keep what you love and return the rest with a pre-paid shipping label – think Stitch Fix! It’s so simple! And what’s even better – the prices are as low as Amazon or might even be less. This month’s box came in about $10 less than Amazon and if you keep all five titles you get a small discount as well. Plus, if you use my link, you’ll receive an additional 25% off! It’s so simple and easy! Besides the books, you also get some cute extras that you get to keep – and they are awesome!

Which Club to Choose

When Literati Kids reached out to me, I got to choose what club box I received. Because I don’t have kids of my own, I decided to try out the Club Sage box for kids ages 7 – 9. I always believe this is one of the hardest age groups to tackle for book suggestions. Some kids may still be struggling to read the longer text by themselves, while others are extremely advanced. The Literati Kids description for this age group is so spot-on, my interest was piqued!

“Club Sage is home to budding independent readers. With early chapter book series, simple graphic novels, nonfiction and activity books, Sage curations promote discussion, inspire questions, and hone cognitive tools your child will use for years to come.”

But, they also have clubs for all ages groups from newborn to 13+ which means there’s literally a box for any kid! And what’s awesome is that the box includes a really great variety of titles that is sure to grab your kid’s attention!

What’s Included

wildflower bookmark

Alright, so what’s in my Literati Kids box? This month’s theme is all about observation with “marvels for miles, with wonder throughout.” The theme encourages kids to learn about the world around them and to use their observation skills to solve a few mysteries!

My box included some really adorable book-cessories – a beautiful poster of a night sky, with gorgeous pinks, purples, and blues. Each month’s theme share’s a different artist’s work. This month’s artist is Jennifer M. Potter, a picture book illustrator. The poster and my personalized bookplates complement each other with the artist’s work. This month, I also received a really cute wildflower seed bookmark. You can literally plant this bookmark in the ground, water it, and grow wildflowers! What a great project for kids to observe!

Books Included

Now, for the books! Sign up now to get great books like the ones included in this box. And you can use my link to receive an additional 25% off! This box included:

  • The Case of the Missing Carrot Cake by Robin Newman, illustrated by Deborah Zemke
A perfect early chapter book mystery! I love a book filled with puns and wordplay and this one “takes the cake!” Two MFIs (Missing Food Investigators) must figure out who took Miss Rabbit’s carrot cake for her party. It’s no easy task, but they’re up for the challenge. Plus, any book with a recipe inside is a book for me!
  • Choose Your Own Adventure: Ghost Island by Shannon Gilligan
I used to LOVE the old Choose Your Own Adventure Books and now they’re back in full color! What I love is that each piece is only a page, maybe a little more before you receive a direction or a choice to make. This is a great suggestion for reluctant readers because it’s so active!
  • Juana & Lucas by Juana Medina
This was the one story I was familiar with already as it won the Pura Belpré Award a few years ago. It’s about a young girl named Juana and her dog Lucas. I love that Spanish is sprinkled throughout the story, but is done in a way that is easy for kids to understand.
  • Barefoot Books: Incredible Animals by Dunia Rahwan, illustrated by Paola Formica
There’s just something about an oversize book that draws kids to explore and observe! I love books like this, especially when they share really cool animal facts! Learn about Nile Crocodiles and Egyptian Plovers, birds who help keep the crocodiles’ teeth clean, or cuttlefish who can blend into their surroundings to camouflage themselves.
  • Color, Doodle, Draw!
With more than 75 creative coloring activities, your little one is sure to use their observation skills to doodle for days! I love the variety of activities – some are just coloring pages, others require you to create patterns, or finish the illustration. This would be a perfect activity book for a road trip, add a box of crayons, colored pencils, or markers and you’re all set!

Final Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed receiving this book box! I loved that the books were diverse in terms of characters as well as formats. Like last month, I was familiar with one of the books already, but it’s an adorable story, so I’m definitely here for it. The book-cessories were adorable and super fun for kids (and adults)! I think this would make an awesome gift for family or friends to give. And I think a wide variety of kids would really enjoy it!

Don’t forget, sign up for a Literati Kids book subscription using my link to receive an additional 25% off!

I received a Literati Kids Club Sage box from the company in exchange for an honest review.
