Literati Kids – February Box

Have you ever tried Hello Fresh or Blue Apron? What about Stitch Fix or Book of the Month? Subscription boxes are extremely popular these days and they even have them for kids’ books too!

You’ve got to check out Literati Kids – a subscription box service that caters to kids. Each box includes five expertly curated age-appropriate books, original art, personalized book-cessories, and more!

And what I love about it, is you can try out the books for a week. Keep what you love and return the rest with a pre-paid shipping label! It’s so simple! And what’s even better – the prices are as low as Amazon or might even be less! Plus, if you use my link, you’ll receive an additional 25% off! It’s so simple and easy! Besides the books, you also get some cute extras that you get to keep – and they are legit!

Literati Kids

So, because I don’t have kids of my own, I chose to receive the Club Sage box for kids ages 7 – 9. I always believe this is one of the hardest age groups to tackle for book suggestions because some kids may still be struggling to read the longer text by themselves, while others are extremely advanced. The Literati Kids description for this age group is so spot-on, my interest was piqued!

“Club Sage is home to budding independent readers. With early chapter book series, simple graphic novels, nonfiction and activity books, Sage curations promote discussion, inspire questions, and hone cognitive tools your child will use for years to come.”

But, they also have clubs for all ages groups from newborn to 13+ which means there’s literally a box for any kid! And what’s awesome is that the box includes a really great variety of titles that is sure to grab your kid’s attention!

What’s Included

Alright, so what’s in my Literati Kids box? My box included some really adorable book-cessories – a magnetic bookmark in the shape of a pointed finger, six personalized bookplates, and a gorgeous open book poster that I’m totally framing for my work office. What I love is that you can learn more about the artist, Steve Adams, on the back of the poster and even check him out online. It’s also really cool to note that the bookmark and bookplates take imagery directly from the poster which is really cool and ties everything together.

Books Included

Now, for the books! This box included:

  • The Great Pet Heist by Emily Ecton, illustrated by David Motram
This was such a fun story! With anthropomorphic animals who plan a heist to become independently wealthy until just about everything goes wrong! I really enjoyed this story and it would be perfect for a reader who is confident in their reading skills and is ready for something a little longer, but with some illustrations still included.
  • Legend of the Star Runner (A Solve Them Yourself Mysteries Adventure) by J. I. Wagner, illustrated by C. Froehlich
A combination adventure and mystery novel, I love interactive stories that force readers to really pay attention and this story does that! Use the words and illustrations to solve each mystery to find out what happens! A quick note – the author is German, so the spelling and words may confuse you a bit.
  • 13th Street: Battle of the Bad-Breath Bats by David Bowles
The perfect length chapter book for this age group with plenty of illustrations and a fast-pace to keep it moving! Malia and her cousins Dante and Ivan are headed for the waterpark when they take a shortcut through an alley only to be dropped into a mysterious place where they must battle the bad-breath bats!
  • Backward Science: What Was Life Like Before World-Changing Discoveries? by Clive Gifford, illustrated by Annie Wilson
What I love is that this box includes both fiction and nonfiction titles. There are some kids that may never pick up a popular novel, but could pour over facts all day long – this is the perfect book for that! Learn about inventions from the end to the beginning with lots of great tidbits of info to share with friends and family!
  • The 50 States Activity Book
“With more than 20 activities, a fold-out map poster, and 50 stickers!” This is a really cool activity book and one that I think kids would truly enjoy – there’s a little something for everyone – crossword puzzle about homes, animals from across the country, great race dice game, and so much more. Plus, kids get to learn while playing! Did you know seven states share the Northern Cardinal as their state bird?

Final Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed receiving this book box! I loved that the books were diverse in terms of characters as well as formats. For a librarian/book blogger to receive five books that were all new-to-me is pretty awesome! The book-cessories were adorable and super fun for kids (and adults)! I think this would make an awesome gift for family or friends to give. And I think a wide variety of kids would really enjoy it!
