RIP Notorious RBG

News of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing shocked the world last night. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, or Notorious RBG as she was lovingly referred to as spent her life fighting for equality and women’s rights. Growing up during a time when many people viewed women’s role in the home, Ruth’s mother encouraged her to succeed in school and often took her to the local public library. Although having passed away before Ruth graduated high school, Ruth took her mother’s view on education seriously graduating tied for first place from Columbia Law School.

She showed many people that you could be a mother and also work outside the home and be successful at both. She became the second woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1993 and was known for her fiery dissents when she disagreed strongly with her fellow jurors. She gained her nickname “Notorious RBG” because she refused to back down after pop culture icon The Notorious B.I.G.
