Books & Cooks Letter C: Cardamom

This year I’m going to be combining two of my passions – cooking and kid lit for Books & Cooks! I’ll be bringing you great recipes based on spices of the alphabet that pair perfectly with kid lit books! Next up? The letter C and warm Cardamom!

Letter C

Spice: Cardamom

I would expect that most people are familiar with cardamom from chai, but cardamom is also very popular in Scandinavian desserts and in a lot of Indian savory cooking as well. Although you might think it’s difficult to find, cardamom can be found in most major food stores and online as well!

Book Review: American as Paneer Pie by Supriya Kelkar

I actually haven’t read this book yet, but it’s on my list because I love Indian food and I’m excited to see how the main character navigates both her home life and school life when she doesn’t feel like she can be her whole self in either place. Supriya Kelkar is also the author of Ahimsa about Gandhi’s freedom movement in India, which I loved, so I’m excited to read this contemporary fiction title!

Recipe: Paneer Butter Masala

This recipe is definitely a little more involved, but recipes like this make your house smell amazing as the spices and herbs meld together into something so delicious. This recipe includes step by step photos which are extremely helpful if you’re cooking a cuisine that is new to you! Read the whole recipe before you begin, so you know what to expect! Masala is a delicious sauce and is perfect with just about any protein!

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge 2020. For my theme this year (Books & Cooks), I’ll be combining children’s books with cooking spices and including a recipe to bring the book into your very own kitchen! I love to cook and read, so I thought this would be a fun way to combine two of my passions. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Let’s dig in! And if you want to see what I’ve done in the past, check out the past few years – 201620172018, and 2019!
