Slice of Life Day 29: Memories

Since I’m now working from home and sitting in my home office every day, I figured I need to make it as comfortable as possible for at least the next week, maybe longer! I hate being cold and sitting still for long periods of time is usually when I’m coldest! I literally have fingerless gloves and a “lap” blanket at work when I’m really chilly. It doesn’t help that our HVAC system is older, so you never really know what the temperature will be like on any given day.

So anyway, being at home, I’m still cold sitting at my desk. This means I had to find a way to stay warm beside the hoodies! And came across a beautiful blanket that I had stored away in the attic. It’s a lap quilt that I received as a graduation present (from high school!) that was gifted to me from a librarian I worked with at my first ever library job. It’s made of flannel and is so extremely warm and cozy!

Childhood Library

If you’ve never heard my “How I Became a Librarian” story, it’s a good one. That being said, I grew up in a pretty small town and worked at the library from 14 through high school and then came back for a year or so during college as well. The staff (of 3-4) was a second family to me as I had also grown up going to the library as a kid. I worked a few days after school, Friday evenings and every other Saturday and pretty much loved everything about it.

I actually stopped at the library on prom night to show off my dress so everyone could see it! I still go back to visit when I’m visiting my parents although much of the staff is different now. But, beginning my career with women who loved and supported me was an amazing way to start. And I am forever thankful for their kindness and help all the way through high school and beyond.

slice of life

This is my second year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be posting brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. A slice of my life as a librarian and blogger that I hope you enjoy!
