#blogbookaday: Douglas, You’re a Genius!

Douglas, You're a GeniusSummary:

“Pals Nancy and Douglas think their baseball game is over after their ball rolls through a hole in the fence. But when the ball rolls back, followed by a note in an unfamiliar language, they have to discover who’s on the other side of the fence. And so in a series of truly outrageous–and hilarious–stunts, Nancy tries to launch, vault, and fly Douglas over to the other side to see what’s what. Finally, after all Nancy’s plans fail, Douglas gets his turn to execute a plan–and it works! And who do they find? New friends who speak Spanish. Readers will laugh out loud at the antics in this zany picture book, which proves that working together makes everything more fun.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review:

Nancy and Douglas lose a baseball under the fence and when a note appears they decide to meet the neighbors. But, with a tall fence in the way, Nancy must use her imagination to try and get over the fence. After a number of failed attempts with Douglas at the brunt of the plans, Douglas has a new plan. They meet the new Spanish-speaking neighbors and create a crazy plan to share with all their friends together with water slides, escalators, a ball pit, and more!

Personal Reaction:

This is such a fun book as Nancy’s imagination gets the better of her as she tries to get Douglas across the fence using a trampoline, a soda bottle rocket launcher, rubber bands and more. I love when Douglas finally gets the chance to try out his plan. I totally thought it was going to go one way and the author took it a completely different direction, which was a lot of fun! When Nancy and Douglas meet the neighbors they all get together to create a lot of fun activities for the neighborhood kids. Kids that enjoy building and creating things will love this book.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
