#blogbookaday: Rock What Ya Got

Rock What Ya GotSummary:

When a drawing of a little girl comes to life, she boldly declares that she doesn’t want to be erased, or put into a picture that doesn’t feel like her true self. Instead, she decides to speak up in a powerful way. And she has some words of advice: embrace what you have, love yourself, and “rock what ya got.”

In this affirmation of self-identity and girl power, a child’s memorable mantra offers a timeless lesson, reminding readers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities that it’s okay to be yourself. Bold illustrations from Kerascoët (Malala’s Magic Pencil) bring the engaging story to life. ” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review:

A drawing of a girl comes to life and reminds the illustrator to “rock what ya got.” Even as the illustrator tries to change her the little girl continues the same mantra. She reinforces the idea that you’ve got to, “find what is yours and carve out your spot…”

Personal Reaction:

I think this would pair perfectly for with Dear Girl by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Paris Rosenthal and I Am Enough by Grace Byers. The three titles together would make for a super kick-butt girl power set of books. Definitely, borrow them from the library. With the holidays around the corner, these would make a perfect gift for a little girl. These are three awesome titles!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
