#blogbookaday: Little Pig Saves the Ship

Little Pig Saves the Ship.jpgSummary:  “Little Pig is too small to go to sailing camp with his brothers and sisters, so his grandfather makes him a model ship, and together they sail it on the stream–until it gets carried away by the current, and Little Pig has to rescue the ship before it is wrecked.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Little Pig is too small to join his siblings for sailing camp, so instead he spends the weekend with his grandpas as they practice tying knots, building a sailboat and sailing it in the stream. When his ship gets caught in the current, he uses all he learned about tying knots to save the day!

Personal Reaction: This was such a sweet story about a little pig persevering in the face of trouble, it’s about family and with a subtle nod to the LGBT+ community with two grandpas, this book shows a family situation that is not uncommon. Younger siblings can often feel left out and this book addresses that with alternative plans for Little Pig and a way for him to feel empowered.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
