#blogbookaday: Dog Loves Drawing

Dog Loves DrawingSummary:  “Dog loves books, but one day he receives a strange one in the mail—it’s blank! Soon, Dog realizes that this book is not for reading, but for drawing. Before long, Dog is doodling and drawing himself into a new world, full of friends and surprises.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: Dog loves to read and even opened his very own bookstore, until one day when his aunt sends him a package. He opens it to find his very own sketchbook and soon creates grand adventures through drawing. He creates new friends and he even comes across a monster! This would be a great story to read for an art class as a way to encourage artistic expression and creativity.
Personal Reaction: This is an adorable story about a sweet dog whose creativity needs a little help to get flowing, but when it does he has a lot of fun with new friends! I loved the story within a story concept and the pencil and watercolor illustrations perfectly fit this story as the drawings looked “handmade” or as if a kid could create something similar, while the “real world” was much more polished. I think this would make a great start to a drawing prompt for an art class or even at home on a rainy day – read the story and then work on your own drawing adventure!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
