#blogbookaday: Night Out

Night OutSummary:  “When a small, friendless boy goes to bed at his boarding school, an adventure is about to begin! First he finds an invitation in his turtle’s bowl. Next he makes an escape–out the window, through the woods, across a river, and onto an island. And then he joins a grand celebration, with larger-than-life animals serving tea and dancing late into the night. And finally? After the journey back, he has a fantastic story to tell–the perfect way to make a friend.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: In this story with minimal words and gorgeous illustrations a young boy , all alone, goes to bed and soon an adventure begins as he’s invited to a celebration with tea and music with some unexpected guests. He soon returns home with a story to share.
Personal Reaction: I really enjoyed this book with very few, impactful words and absolutely beautiful gouche and colored pencil illustrations that really share the feelings of the young boy from his sadness at being alone and his happiness for being included in the celebration with bright colors. This story would make a great read aloud to talk about how to include kids into conversations and groups when they’re by themselves whether at school or on the playground.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
