Slice of Life Day 2: My Favorite Reading Place
I’m going to be honest, I can read just about anywhere – and usually carry a book with me most places because you never know when you’ll have a few minutes to read a couple of pages. But, my favorite reading place is a chair and a half. But, not…

Slice of Life Day 1: When I Decided to Become a Librarian
I thought this might be the perfect introduction for my first post of the Slice of Life Challenge. Plus, one of the kids at work literally asked me when I decided to become a librarian last night. So the story’s fresh in my mind. I was one of those rare…

Ant-Man Read Alikes
Ant-Man is full of laughter and heart, but at the root it is truly all about family. I chose some interesting titles to read if you’re a fan of Ant-Man – a graphic novel about bees (a fascinating combination of facts and story), a story about searching for family in…

Slice of Life Challenge
I’ve seen the logo over the past few years, but never took the time to read up on what it was all about. The Slice of Life Challenge started in 2008 as a challenge for fourth grade students to encourage them to write regularly in their notebooks about their own…

Director’s Thoughts – 2/20/19
This week, I held my third staff training day. We close the library on President’s Day and I spend time training staff on customer service ideals, weeding practices and whatever else I need to discuss! Unfortunately, because much of my staff is part-time, I can’t ask them to spend a…

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Loved with Fewer than 2,000 Ratings on Goodreads
I don’t know if this is surprising, but many of the middle grade books I love don’t’ have anywhere near 2,000 ratings. These are all fairly new titles that I really enjoyed reading and think that more people need to be aware exist! The Doughnut Fix by Jessie Janowitz Marcus…
