Storytime Theme: Rhyming Books

Rhyming picture books are so fun to read aloud (as long as the rhyming is spot on!). Sometimes, the rhymes don’t quite work or they need to be pronounced a certain way to get them to rhyme, which always trips me up! But, when a rhyming book works really well, it’s a joy to read! In fact, I just posted a book list of rhyming board books this week too, so if you’re looking for even more great titles, you’ve got to check those out!

Rhymes are a great way for little ones to understand the smaller sounds that help to make up words. It’s why nursery rhymes have been so popular for so long, these short little poems with rhyming sounds help kids to learn language. And while finding crafts and activities about rhyming for really little ones can be difficult, I found a few ideas that I think might be able to work for preschooler! I think having a couple of stations about specific nursery rhymes could lend themselves to a craft or activity at each one. I think this is one of the most fun lesson plans, because beyond the rhyming nature of the books, they don’t really need to be “themed” in any particular matter, so it can also be a kind of easy transition into a themeless storytime if you wanted to try that route a bit too!
