Storytime Theme: Big Cats
While you could easily do a lion or tiger storytime theme, I thought it might be fun to think a little bigger and include a variety of big cats in storytime! This storytime lesson plan works really well when you incorporate some nonfiction books into the program. And what’s great is that you can use this opportunity to talk to parents about how to use nonfiction at home. You don’t need to read the entire book cover to cover, or even everything on a single page! Just take a small piece of the information that interests your child the most.
I also love nonfiction because it often shows real photographs of the things you’re learning about, giving kids the background knowledge about something new. So, the next time you’re at the zoo you can tie in your reading – “Remember we saw snow leopards in that book? Here’s one you can see in real life!”
This was a fun storytime to pull together and while lion and tiger books abound, it’s a little trickier to find books about jaguars and leopards, but I think this would work out well!
