Storytime Theme: Treehouses

When I first thought of this lesson plan, I was super excited! I have fond memories of the treehouse my dad built for us when we were kids. It was just a simple platform among the trees in the backyard with a ladder to climb up to the top. We played a lot in that treehouse as kids and it was also a great place to take a book and find a little quiet.

There aren’t as many kids’ books as I expected to find about treehouses, but I manged to find a handful. Then I got to looking for songs, crafts, and activities and realized I had too high of expectations! So, instead, I went in a different direction, sharing some fun “camp” or “campfire” songs that I think would still work great for a treehouse storytime.

As for activities, I was hoping for something a little more inspired. However, I think letting kids loose with some building material would be a great way to expand their imagination, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. And while a fairy house is not the same as a treehouse, this craft was too cute to ignore!
