2024 Blogging A to Z Challenge: Aquatics

It’s the very first day of April, and you know what that means – the beginning of the 2024 Blogging A to Z Challenge! I’m excited to participate in my ninth(!) year of this challenge! This year, my theme is adventurous readers and I’m going to be sharing 26 letter-themed adventure book lists for kids of all ages.

This month-long challenge definitely stretched my interpretation of adventure books as I thought about what would be considered an adventure and what that looks like in different contexts. And you’ll see what I mean as we travel through the alphabet this month. Some letters lean more easily to “typical” adventure style novels, while others, I really had to think about what adventure means and how that can look in different settings. I also tried to include books for a wide-variety of age levels, but kept the majority of the titles in the middle grade age group. And I also included different types of formats, genres, and styles as well. By the end of the month, this challenge will include a list of over 300 titles for kids!

But for today, I’m focusing on Aquatics (because it starts with the letter “A”). These adventure titles are all set around water, whether that’s a pool, pond, lake, or ocean. So, if you’re someone like me who loves to be in and around water, this is a book list just for you. From picture books to graphic novels, realistic fiction titles to scary stories that I’d leave the lights on for, there’s a little something for everyone!

Rescue at Lake Wild by Terry Lynn Johnson

2024 is my ninth year participating in the Blogging A to Z Challenge. This year, I chose as my theme: Adventurous Readers with a focus on providing book lists focused on all types of adventures for readers from birth to teens. Each letter of the alphabet will focus on different sub-genres or age groups and will provide twelve titles of books. This theme coincides well with the summer reading theme for many libraries which is “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and no matter what type of books the kids in your life like, there is sure to be something they’ll find interesting over the course of the month.
