Storytime Theme: Flamingos

A few weeks ago I shared my second favorite bird – peacocks in a spotlight for a storytime lesson plan. Today, I’m sharing a lesson plan all about my absolutely favorite bird – flamingos! Is it weird that I have a ranking of favorite birds? Maybe, but it definitely helps when your nephew asks you to guess what is fifth favorite animal is, because you’d better believe you also have five favorite animals too!

I’ve loved flamingos since forever – ever since I was a little girl. I think it was originally because they were pink, and then I learned that they turn pink because they eat shrimp (from Reading Rainbow) and that fun fact has stuck with me my entire life. My niece loves flamingos too, which is something sweet that we share and I love that too.

I love their long, spindly legs, how they basically fold in half to eat, and they can balance on just one leg to sleep! So, I’m sharing some great books today – both fiction and nonfiction titles, plus some great songs about flamingos (yes, I found multiple flamingo songs), and a few absolutely adorable crafts.
