Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals 2024

It’s that time of year to set goals, resolutions, “words of the year”, basically a great big reset! Check out my word of the year – I think it’s going to be a word I have to work at this year, but I’m ready to trust myself. I love getting this chance to reflect on where I am and create goals for the future. Do I stick to my goals? Not always, but I do love setting them!

My bookish goals for 2024 are some that I had last year that I wasn’t very successful at while others are a little more focused on my blog. What are your reading goals this year? I’ve never really set a reading goal to read X number of books. I never ever want to feel like reading is a chore. Because, for me, reading is a time to relax at the end of the day. Or a small moment of pause in the middle of a busy day. Do you set a goal to read a specific number of books or a more general goal to read more throughout the year?

Bookish Goals for 2024

  1. Read Books on My Bookshelf
I have a horrible tendency to buy a few books each year and they are immediately put on my bookshelf and ignored. It’s almost like a security blanket. They’re right there if I need them, but I’ll ignore them most of the time. This is the year I’m going to start tackling some of those, especially because I’m running out of shelf space!
  2. Read More
This is my goal every year, only because since COVID I haven’t been reading as nearly much as I used to. The number has been inching up every year. And I’ve definitely gotten back into my groove, now to just keep that positive momentum going. I don’t have a specific number of titles in mind, see my comment from earlier. I just want to make sure that reading is part of my regular schedule.
  3. Dive Back Into Middle Grade
Since COVID, I’ve taken a hiatus from reading many middle grade books and I want to dive back into the age group. I’ve always loved middle grade titles and I’ve got so many that I’d like to add to my TBR.
  4. Read More YA
I’ve started this year reading a few YA titles and I’m really enjoying them. Every year I claim I’m going to read more in the YA arena, maybe this year will be it? There are some amazing books coming out and I’m really looking forward to checking them out!
  5. Read Picture Books Throughout the Year
This was one of my goals last year, and I was successful for about two months and then stopped. I’d like to try to keep up with some of the picture books coming out this year on a more consistent basis. Because my frantic reading in November is just not ideal!
  6. Read Across Genres and Formats
This is another goal I have most years because I often get comfortable reading what I know I’ll love. But, inevitably, if I try something new, I’m often surprised by how often I enjoy it. Something about not judging a book by its cover…
  7. Read More Professional Work
This is a goal that I might not reach, but I’d love to try and read a couple of professional works that either help me at work or writing on the blog. I’m thinking about things like reading instruction, public library management, leadership, etc. These aren’t typically the types of books I want to read, but are important nevertheless.
  8. Dip My Toes Back into Reading ARCs
I got out of the book review game a few years ago. It can be so stressful trying to get books read on a schedule and then to also write an honest and well thought out review. I’m definitely not diving back into the game quite yet, but I may request and ARC or two and see how it goes.
  9. Improve Blogging SEO
I’m working really hard on this blog of mine in my spare time. I’m going to try and focus on really upping my SEO so more readers can find it. I hit the highest number of views last year, even blowing my original goal out of the water, so I’m excited to see what happens this year!
  10. Post about Books on Instagram
And finally, bookstagram and book took are very real. And while I know next to nothing about either, I’m toying with the idea of adding way more content to my Instagram. Maybe even some short videos. It sounds like a lot of work, and I’m not exactly sure how to get started, but it’s something to work towards this year.
