Storytime Theme: Cows

Being at my parents’ house has inspired a cow-themed storytime this morning! My parents’ house is in the country and less than a mile down the road is a large dairy farm, so it’s not uncommon to hear cows mooing and if the wind blows just right, it smells just like a farm.

Thankfully, this storytime is free of manure, but it’s full of lots of fun! Cow books tend to lend themselves to very funny stories like Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type! or Cowlick. But, as you very well know, I love adding nonfiction books to storytime themes as well and the simple The Lifecycle of a Cow is a perfect addition to the list.

You don’t have to use this post directly as written. If you’re a school teacher or librarian, take the pieces you like and leave the rest. If you’re a parent, use this as a jumping off point to add some extension activities to your read aloud time. Kids love to learn and explore and by combining songs, crafts, and activities you’re allowing them to grow!
