Storytime Theme: Shapes

This is a fun and important storytime theme! Being able to identify shapes and practicing drawing them helps PreK kids identify and write letters. Think about it, most letters are shapes or parts of shapes. Help kids with early literacy skills by reading some of these great stories, singing some songs, and creating art or doing activities all about shapes!

Don’t forget, shapes are everywhere so go on a shape scavenger hunt around the house or neighborhood. Search for unexpected shapes like a star inside an apple when you cut around its middle. If you’re looking for even more great shape ideas, check out Pinterest – there are dozens of ideas to check out. Or, if that thought is overwhelming, just scroll down for only a few ideas to get you started.
