Slice of Life Day 17: St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day in my house means the one time a year I make corned beef. Isn’t it weird that some foods are only made around a specific holiday? Chex Mix in my house growing up was only made around Christmas. I’m not sure why. When I moved out after college, my friends had a party and someone brought Chex Mix in the middle of the summer – it blew my mind! This cranberry relish that we have at Thanksgiving – it’s awesome, but I only ever have it at Thanksgiving. My grandma’s chocolate cake, which is to die for? That’s for birthday celebrations.

Where’s the line between making something to be special and enjoying the food that you like? Do you have traditions or recipes that you only pull out for certain holidays? I’m super curious to know!

Besides the corned beef which is going into the crockpot, I’ll make some mashed potatoes and a yummy cabbage and bacon dish too. I’m looking forward to a delicious dinner that I only have once a year!

This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!

It is weird to think how some foods really do go with certain holidays. I love turkey and stuffing but only on Christmas and Thanksgiving. And I agree with you– Chex Mix is only for Christmas. I’ve never made corned beef. Every year, only on Saint Patrick’s Day, I consider it, but I never quite pull it off.
