Slice of Life Day 15: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Our “back-door” neighbors as I call them have an absolutely beautiful yard. Both the husband and wife love to garden and you can clearly tell. Most weekends, I’ll see one or both of them tending to flowers, vegetables, trimming this, moving that. It’s a constant battle – protecting the young plants from hungry wildlife while encouraging them to grow where they are planted.

Yesterday afternoon, our doorbell rang which in and of itself was odd. With the pandemic, we haven’t really had anyone over in months at this point. Our neighbor stopped by to give us some daffodil bulbs and some other plants that she was breaking up and moving around her garden. She’s so sweet!

We ended up with lilies, irises, a bunch of daffodils, some bleeding hearts, a butterfly bush, and honestly, I’m not sure what else! She gave me a quick rundown of what needed sun, what preferred shade, and how to care for them. So, unexpectedly, I spent an hour or so in my garden beds trying to squeeze in a few things, while remembering what I already had! I kind of being surprised to see what will begin to bloom in the next few months!

My next project is to break up a small strip of grass along the back fence and plant a bunch of wildflower seeds to see what comes up! But, I’m definitely going to have to rent a rototiller for that job, there’s no way I’m breaking up all that grass by hand.

This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!
