Slice of Life Day 14: Perfect Gift

I love searching for the perfect gift for a friend or family member. It’s like the best kind of treasure hunt – finding something that is personal and means so much to that person. I think it’s one of the reasons I love Christmas time so much – not getting gifts, but giving them.

Yesterday was my cousin’s birthday. She’s had a tough year with between COVID and some major family medical issues, so we wanted to get her something to show how special she is. Typically, when my mom visits we tend to do some shopping. I live in a very suburban area with a HUGE mall and my mom’s closest grocery store is a 15-20 minute drive. So, with COVID, we’ve learned to shop online while talking over the phone. It’s not always the easiest way to do things, but we get to spend time together, so it’s pretty fun.

Book Subscription

So, for my cousin’s gift, we wanted to get her something that she’d love, obviously. But, again COVID definitely hinders what we can do – no spa day, no day trip somewhere fun. Instead we found a book subscription service called Bookship. And it’s like it was literally made for my cousin. It’s for “avid adult readers of young adult books.” It’s perfect! And because it ships seasonally, my cousin will get four boxes over the course of a year!

I got a chance to call my cousin last night to let her know what’s coming for her and she was literally saying how much she’s been reading lately -a wonderful escape from reality for just a little bit! And now, I’m super curious to see what’s in her first box!

slice of life

This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!
