Slice of Life Day 9: Meetings Week

Every month it seems that the stars perfectly align that I have a meetings week where all my monthly meetings fall in the same week. It’s absolutely ridiculous! And it’s also very hard to get anything else accomplished when I’m sitting in a meeting almost every day of the week.

I had a Board meeting last night, I’ve got a committee meeting this morning, and a staff meeting on Wednesday. Because of the way the calendar fell, my typical Board meeting on Friday morning is actually next week, thank goodness!

There are positives and negatives about meeting virtually. The meeting takes overall less time because I don’t have to drive to the meeting location, which is great. But in large groups, it can be difficult to have discussions because you have to unmute and talk and mute and there’s background noise and all sorts of stuff going on around everyone!

I’ve also found that it’s more difficult because you can’t have a quick side conversation with someone else in the meeting because everyone can hear you. So it’s missing that bit of connection as well.

The absolute worst meetings? The ones that could have been an email. And we’ve all been to a meeting like that before, am I right?

This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!

You are very right about that! My worst meeting this year was an IEP meeting that lasted over two hours and still had to be continued on another day because we didn’t get through everything. And the student wasn’t even mine! Hope you make it through all your meetings this week. At least next week you’ll be able to breathe a sigh of relief!

Ha! That feeling of, “what am I doing here?” I’ve had that more than a few times and good grief is it frustrating. It’s been quite some time since I had a meeting where I felt invigorated or inspired to get started on something. I hope those days return.
