9 Picture Books for Pink Shirt Day

Today is Pink Shirt Day! Pink Shirt Day is an international movement “to practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying.” Bullying is a serious concern for kids of all ages and it’s important to have an open dialog with kids about what bullying looks like. When kids can better identify bullying and have a plan in place to deal with it, they become more empowered. Below are 9 Picture Books for Pink Shirt Day and perfect books to start talking about bullying.

I think one of the hardest things for kids to do, beyond standing up for themselves, is to stand up for a peer. No one wants to draw attention to themselves when there’s a bully on the loose. But, in many of these titles kids learn about empathy and what it means to be a friend.

If you’re looking for more resources about bullying, check out StopBullying.gov, KidsHealth.org, and ChildMind.org. There are also a ton of great middle grade books available about bullying as well that would make really great book discussion suggestions.
