Christmas Tree Picture Books

Picking out our Christmas tree was always an event we looked forward to growing up. My mom would make hot chocolate to fill up a thermos, we’d pack up Christmas cookies, and then meet some friends at the Christmas tree farm. We trudged through the snow with our snow boots on as my Dad used his hat and mittens to mark our “maybe” trees. Then when we finally decided on the perfect tree, we all got the chance to help cut it down, with my Dad doing most of the work himself and my mom documenting with tons of photos. Then we’d drag the tree down the hill to have it tied up and while we waited in line, we drank hot chocolate and ate cookies. An idyllic December day. As we got older, the day was more rushed and squished into where ever it fit into our busy schedules.

Now, I have a pre-lit tree and although much easier to manage, nothing compares to the smell of a real Christmas tree during the holidays. Today I’m sharing 12 Christmas Tree picture books that make perfect read alouds for this time of year. Some are titles I grew up reading, while others are new to me!

I just read Night Tree to my granddaughter yesterday and it brought beautiful memories of reading this title to my children. The book also suggests that we take time to take a moment to enjoy nature as is and take care of it for future generations. A lovely read.
