It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 7/27/2020

Last Week

Historical fiction when well written has always taught me something new. And that’s exactly what happened when I read The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee. I had never heard that during Reconstruction plantation owners looked to Chinese Americans for labor. After reading about Jo’s story, I did more research to learn more about a time period that we learned very little about in school. I really enjoyed this story not only for the history lesson but also because I really liked the storyline as well – a young woman making her way in the world.

I must have been in a historical fiction kick this past week because I also read Premeditated Myrtle by Elizabeth C. Bunce. This story is about a young girl named Myrtle who discovers some nefarious acts going on across the street. But, as a Young Lady of Quality, it is frowned upon for her to conduct an investigation of the crime scene. I loved this sassy main character and her passion for justice!

Reading List for Week of 7/27/2020

Work continues to kick my butt on a daily basis! But this week, I’m hoping to read both My Summer of Love and Misfortune by Lindsay Wong and You Should See Me In a Crown by Leah Johnson. And maybe, if I’m lucky, I can get my hands on a copy of A Wish in the Dark by Christina Soontornvat from work!
