It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 6/29/2020

Last Week

I finished just one book this week. Just one! We started curbside delivery at the library and it is taxing! With a very limited staff, we’re trying to accomplish everything we would with a complete staff and it keeps me running from the time I start my day to the end. Plus, without time to actually sit in my office and get anything else done, I usually come home and work for another hour or two to get more done.

I was able to finish Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron. It’s so exciting to see a diverse character in a science fiction story. I loved Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia with its focus on African and African American folklore and I also love Maya’s story – a science fiction adventure that also happens to have a Black main character. Both styles of books are so important and I can’t wait to share them with our kids at the library!

Reading List for Week of 6/30/2020

I’ve got a few YA novels to dive into this week and with a long weekend on the horizon, I’m excited to read them both! The first just came back to the library and after a 72-hour quarantine, I’m really excited to finally read it – The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys. I’ve heard some amazing things about it and I’m excited to dive into a part of history that I’m not very familiar with. The other YA novel I have is Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite. This one I picked up a couple of weeks ago during the #BlackOutPublishing campaign.

What kind of reading plans do you have for the long weekend?
