Slice of Life Day 16: Never-Ending Laundry

I think laundry is one of my most despised household chores. It’s one of those things that you can never catch up on because there is always an outfit being worn. I don’t mind so much the act of sorting colors and fabric types. Switching laundry from the washer to the dryer isn’t that bad either. Especially now that our new machines have notifications that go right to our phones to let us know when the washer or dryer are finished. It makes remembering to do the laundry so much easier!

The part I hate is folding. And honestly, I’m not sure why. It’s not hard to do and I can easily multi-task, watching TV, talking on the phone. But something about digging into a clean laundry basket and having to fold all of those clothes just irks me. So what did I do during my first social distancing weekend? I did laundry, that is sitting downstairs waiting for me to fold it. And I’m thinking, maybe tomorrow…

Do you have a household chore that you absolutely despise for no good reason? Or maybe for a very good reason?

This is my second year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be posting brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. A slice of my life as a librarian and blogger that I hope you enjoy!

So funny and true! I mind the lugging all the laundry downstairs from the bedrooms, so i have my kids do that part. I don’t mind the sorting, the washing, the drying, even the folding or ironing is OK. I can’t stand the putting it away! Especially on days where I have super-cleaned, and everything is in the drawers pr closet at the same time! There isn’t room for all of it at once!!!

Growing up, my parents had the laundry on the second floor with all of our bedrooms and other than a few times the laundry basin overflowed, it worked out really well to prevent the lugging downstairs!

Oh! Laundry! The never-ending chore. My husband calls it the “sisyphean laundry basket” which at least makes me laugh. We have three baskets to fold tonight which means we’ll sit with the kids, watch a movie & fold laundry – and call it family time!

Laundry is mine too. Hate it. Clean clothes just pile and pile in my bedroom. My therapist told me to do a time challenge to see how long it really takes to put my own clothes away. She said, you’ll see it’s not that long and then next time, you can say “It’s only XX minutes. You can do this.” And so I did and it literally took 4 minutes. Why am I whining over 4 minutes?? Of course, it is more than that because then there are towels, sheets, etc. But I bet none of that takes THAT long if put away each time.

    I also hate the dishes.
    And mopping.
    And picking up clutter.
And well, keeping the house clean in anyway šŸ™‚
