It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 12/9/19

Last Week

I did it! I finished all three books on my reading list this week! That never happens! I tried to read a little bit each night before going to bed and spent some time on Saturday reading as well which was perfect. I read With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo and love how Acevedo creates very real characters managing school, work, friendship, romance, and life. I also read Sunnyside Plaza an interesting story set in a group home filled with distinct characters many of which with disabilities and a mystery that must be solved. It’s definitely not a story I’ve read before and enjoyed it. I don’t know if I would gear it toward middle grade readers necessarily as most of the characters seemed to be adults who happened to have disabilities and they shouldn’t be seen as children. The book has gotten a lot of praise, but I’d love to read more about how the author created these characters as someone who seemingly doesn’t have a disability. And then I read Stargazing by Jen Wang, which I had heard so many great things about and it didn’t disappoint, I really loved this graphic novel about figuring out who you are.

Reading List for Week of 12/9/19

Hopefully, as projects wrap up at work, things will start to slow down, I’ll have fewer meetings and finally get some more time to read. I’ve got a bunch of titles I still want to get to before 2020 hits, so here’s hoping for a good week! The books I’m getting from the library include:

  • All the Greys on Greene Street by Laura Tucker
  • The Line Tender by Kate Allen
  • Dear Sweet Pea by Julie Murphy
  • The Tornado by Jake Burt
  • Lalani of the Distant Sea by Erin Entrada Kelly
