Scholastic Book Fair… Oh, the Memories!

I had a meeting with a school librarian yesterday morning. And as soon as I turned the corner of the library I saw it. The unmistakable silver rolling carts of books around the edges of the room. The Scholastic Book Fair holds quite the memories for me!

As a child, Scholastic Book Fairs were one of the most exciting parts of the school year. My parents would give me a little spending money and I agonized over my choices. For a girl who loved to read, I ignored the “popular, cool” stuff – posters, pencils, journal, and knick-knacks. And instead strolled around the room trying to choose the perfect book.

There was something about the possibilities on those shelves – new worlds to discover, new authors to explore, and new favorites waiting to be added to my bookshelves at home. My parents kept a steady stream of books in our house. We went to the library regularly, we all had magazine subscriptions every month, we received books for Christmas and our birthdays, and every summer we’d stop at the bookstore and pick out something to read. The Scholastic Book Fair was just another resource for books in our house.

Schools and public libraries can host Scholastic Book Fairs – for more information, check out the Scholastic website.
