The Wonder that Is You

Synopsis:

The Wonder That Is You is “A heartwarming book that beautifully captures the universal love and joy parents feel as they celebrate the arrival of their new child. A perfect gift for baby showers, baptisms, adoptions, birthdays, or any time you want to tell your little one how much they are loved.

Every parent dreams of embracing their new child. When that dream comes true, it’s as if all of creation rejoices with them. In the tradition of Nancy Tillman’s On The Night You Were Born and Emily Winfield Martin’s The Wonderful Things You Will Be comes The Wonder That Is You by critically-acclaimed author Glenys Nellist.

Something special happens when a child is in your arms as you read them this book. Something you and your little one will never, ever forget.

It felt as if the world stood still
The day my dream came true,
And all creation paused to see
The wonder that is you.

Review:

This is a beautifully illustrated poem about the love of a parent. Each spread is filled with deep, rich colors with elements of the natural world – animals, flowers, stars, trees and more. Sometimes the spread includes a baby, sometimes it includes a mom and baby. And the artist does provide a diverse look at different skin tones and ethnicities. But, what I did notice is that it’s only mothers and babies. You never see a father figure throughout the story which was a little surprising.

This book is published by a Christian imprint of HarperCollins, but this book doesn’t focus on the Christian faith. “And all creation paused to see the wonder that is you.” Creation (and I infer it to mean all the natural world in this context) is about as “religious” as you get in this story making it much more about the universal feeling of love a mother has for their child.
