Unicorn Storytime

I was asked to do an outreach storytime for International Literacy Day at a jewelry store in the local mall, Kendra Scott, that prides itself on giving back to the community. I decided if I was going to do a storytime at a jewelry store, what better theme than to pull out all the glitter stops and do a unicorn theme! We had a small, but excited crowd to celebrate all things unicorn!

What I loved most was that all of these books featured a goat and unicorn making it pretty fun to read! We also did a quick craft while we waited for everyone to arrive. I made a simple template based on this Valentine Heart Unicorn craft I found online and let the kids glue on the ears, horn, nose, etc. and colored it in. I also posted yesterday the flannel board rhyme that I borrowed and then created pieces for on my own. Overall, this is one of those themes that will be extremely popular for quite a while!

Transition: Five Little Unicorns
I saw five little unicorns – creatures from folklore.
I watched the blue one prance away and then there were four.

I saw four little unicorns resting by a tree
I watched the orange one prance away, and then there were three.

I saw three little unicorns, but as near to them I drew,
The green one pranced away, and then there were two.

I saw two little unicorns – I watched them run and run.
The red one pranced away, and then there was one.

I saw a lonely purple unicorn standing in the sun.
When I blinked my eyes, it pranced away, and then there were none

If you’re a unicorn and you know it, shake your horn.
