Slice of Life Day 29: How Much Do Windows Cost?

So yesterday afternoon we had a meeting about replacing a few of our windows in the house. Since buying the house we’ve been slowly updating it. Of course, spending money on a new furnace replacing all the exterior doors and the biggest window known to mankind (6 ft. tall x 9 ft. wide) isn’t the most glamorous of options. But, we’re trying to make sure the house is more energy efficient and that if we were to sell it, we’d be able to make a little money on it.

Our garage reno is probably 90% complete which is awesome and we’re renovating a tiny half bathroom/laundry room in the lower level to become a full bath with walk in shower and new washer and dryer, with a new hot water heater, etc. That job should be complete in early May.

So at this meeting we were discussing whether or not to replace the rest of the windows in the house (eight more) or take it a few at a time. We already had four that seriously needed to be replaced, so the decision was, “Should we finish off the job or do it in two stages?” We decided to just go for it and finish off the windows.

With these projects nearing completion and new windows being installed in the next month or so, I can really see how much we’ve accomplished in the past few years. I really love my house and as much as I’d rather not spend this kind of money, it’s really looking nice and cared for on the outside and has some great memories on the inside.

Updates in a house can be so expensive and can seem never ending. But the finished product can be so gratifying!! Congrats on making your home yours!

I’m currently on our 2nd year in our “new” home. We purchased it with the ideas and dreams of updating. $20,000 later, and I feel we haven’t even made a dent – but the little things are the points to take. Keep it up!

In the case of windows, though, forever is probably measured in decades šŸ˜‰ On the plus side, windows where I live were replaced in last few years, and the change is noticeably positive.

I am so glad you can see the beauty of renovation in the midst of it! That can be such a hard thing….I feel like no one prepares you for the “joys” of home ownership and all the money and time you have to spend to “enjoy” your home!
