#blogbookaday: Up the Mountain Path

Summary:

Up the Mountain Path

“Mrs. Badger, an avid collector and naturalist, takes a weekly journey up to Sugarloaf Peak, greeting her friends on the way and sharing her discoveries with them. One day she meets Lulu, a very small cat, who wants to go with her to the top of the mountain. On the way, Lulu learns to take care of the natural world, help those in need, and listen to her intuition. Rich in wisdom and beautifully illustrated, Up the Mountain Path offers a profound story full of lessons about love, generosity, and following one’s heart.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review:

Every Sunday Mrs. Badger walks the path up to the top of Sugarloaf Peak. One day she is joined by a very small cat, Lulu, and Mrs. Badger takes her on the adventure of reaching the top – meeting friends, answering questions, helping other animals, and making choices. When Mrs. Badger becomes too old for the hike, the mountain hike becomes Lulu’s hike where she meets a small friend to pass on these beautiful lessons.

Personal Reaction:

Although longer than most picture books, this is a beautiful story of kindness, generosity, and a love of nature. All the animals love Mrs. Badger and she provides little Lulu with tools she needs to reach her goals too. I loved the text – how Mrs. Badger was kind to everyone and the beautiful pictures of Mrs. Badger teaching Lulu the ways of the hike.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
