#blogbookaday: Cycle City

Summary:

Cycle City

“When little Etta the Elephant goes to her Aunt Ellen’s house, she takes a journey through bicycle-filled Cycle City, a town filled with bikes of all kinds! At the end of the day, a special surprise awaits Etta—the most amazing bicycle parade imaginable. Detail-rich illustrations in this fun seek-and-find book paint the colors of this unusual town where everyone rides some kind of bike—whether a penny-farthing, a two-wheeled unicycle, or a conference bike, everyone is on wheels! Packed with prompts and lots to see on every page, this is a sweet story for the sharpest of eyes.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review:

It’s almost time for the Starlight Parade and the mayor has some last minute invites to hand out all around town. A story combined with a seek-and-find is sure to leave kids pouring over these pictures for a long time! With bikes of all kinds and animals of all sorts, this is a fun book to share with friends as you have to find multiple images on each heavily illustrated page! (And they’re not as easy as you’d expect!)

Personal Reaction:

Although difficult to use for a large group, this would be the perfect book to share one-on-one or even with a few kids at a time. There are multiple things to find on each page and kids will take their time looking for each item and delighting in all the little details that Alison has thrown in! What I also love is that even though this is a seek-and-find, it’s also a story and can be taken either way. As a bonus, check out Emily Arrow’s song about Cycle City!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
