It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 12/17/18

Last Week

I read a lot of great stuff last week, not necessarily what I had in mind when I started the week out, but sometimes you’ve just got roll with the punches. Song for a Whale by Lynn Kelly was absolutely amazing, it’s not published until February 5, 2019, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a girl who is surrounded by people, but because of her deafness feels all alone. She learns about a whale who sings at a different frequency from other whales and spends his days swimming alone and decides to create a song for him. It’s a story about family and friendship, trial and adventure, and was really great!

The I read, Hurricane Season by Nicole Melleby about a young girl who’s dealing with her brilliant musician of a father that hasn’t written a full piece since she was born. She tries to manage home life and school as her father’s mental illness causes more and more problems.  A new neighbor starts to her help out and she realizes just how hard life has been. This is a close-up look at family, love and mental illness and was extremely well done. It doesn’t come out until May, so you’ll have to wait a bit for that one!

Then I read two more titles in my Library Lover’s cozy mystery series by Jenn McKinlay. I love these books because they’re fun and easy to read and I can usually read them in a couple sittings.

Finally, I read Goodbye, Mr. Spalding by Jennifer Robin Barr who happens to be a local author that I know through the library! I started this one with a little trepidation as “sports” books aren’t necessarily my go-to. But, I really enjoyed this story as it’s so much more than just about baseball! Set in the 1930s during the Great Depression, it’s about family, friendship, and how far you go to change your own destiny. You’ll have to wait for this one too as it’s set to be published in March!

Reading List for Week of

This week, I’m hoping to get to The Simple Art of Flying by Cory Leonardo, It Wasn’t Me by Dana Alison Levy, Ruby In the Sky by Jeanne Zulick Ferruolo and who knows what else! What are your reading plans for the last few weeks before the new year?
