Strong Is the New Pretty: A Guided Journal for Girls

I was given the Strong Is the New Pretty: A Guided Journal for Girls from Workman Publishing to review. Sadly, I’ve been so busy that it’s been sitting in a pile for a month now. And I’m so excited to finally get a chance to talk about it! Last week I wrote about  Strong Is the New Pretty and how great I think it is that young girls are given the chance to see all types of women that celebrate who they are.

Review

“Illustrated  with favorite photographs from the book Strong Is the New Pretty (as well as more than 20 brand-new images), each page features an inspiring, interactive prompt that encourages writing, doodling, and creative self-expression:

Draw a picture of yourself as a superhero—what is your superpower?
Invent a new language, and write down some translations here.
What makes you unique? List three things about you that make you different.

As girls make their way through the journal, it becomes a source of motivation to be their most powerful selves. It’s a personal keepsake to revisit again and again.” (Taken from Workman Publishing)

My Thoughts

I love the idea of a journal, I never could keep one for more than a few weeks, but I absolutely love the idea. And this journal is really cool because it provides girls with prompts in a variety of formats to really embrace their creativity and individuality. They’ve got places to draw and doodle, write lists, learn new words, make arts and crafts and so much more. What I really enjoy is that this journal is pink and glittery and “made for girls.”

It’s focuses on girls with a variety of interests, allowing them to set goals for the future, celebrate their own uniqueness and be ready to stand up for themselves as necessary. This would make a great holiday/birthday gift young girls with a fun set of pens and maybe even the original book for inspiration!
