#blogbookaday: Pretty Kitty

Pretty KittySummary:

A counting picture book in rhyme about a lonely old man whose heart is slowly melted by an ever-growing number of kitties hoping to find a home.

Old man, big city. Pretty kitty, pretty little itty bitty kitty cat.

In this charming counting book, a lonely old man discovers one kitty on his front step. But he does not want a kitty cat—scat! As the number of kitties grows, will the man find room in his heart—and home—for his new feline friends? ” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review:

A grumpy, old man has a kitten follow him home. He is absolutely positively not inviting it into the house. But every morning a new kitten appears. Will the old man stop saying “scat!” and start saying “stay!”? Read this adorable counting book to find out!

Personal Reaction:

I love Karen Beaumont’s rhymes! She also wrote I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! which is one of my favorite sing-along picture books. I love the emotion in this story – it would make a great read aloud for little ones. And would also make a great book for teaching kids about writing stories – using punctuation, captialization, etc. And the illustrations are absolutely adorable! That grumpy, old man didn’t stand a chance when you see the page with all ten kitties and their great big eyes. This is an adorable and heartwarming story about loss and opening your heart again to love.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
