Review

Gods and Heroes: Mythology Around the World by Korwin Briggs is a fascinating book about mythology from cultures around the world. Each character is given four pages illustrated with brief stories about the character. What I liked best about this book is that the author spends time explaining that we only know what we know about myths. Which means that each myth can have a variety of different stories geared toward that character which have changed over time.

The author is specific about including 70 gods and heroes from around the world. Korwin makes a point to select some gods that kids will recognize. While also selecting many others that were new to me and I’m sure, new to other readers as well.

This book is designed with a great format for reluctant readers! There’s not too much text and each section is broken down into small stories making it easily accessible for kids. Kids can also open the book to any character they might be interested. As there is no need to read the book from cover to cover.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a diverse title filled with gods and heroes from cultures around the world, this is the book for you. Pair this title with Rick Riordan’s mythology series for kids looking for more information about the gods and heroes featured in his titles.
