Never Too Young!

Never Too Young!

Goodreads Summary

“From Picasso, who changed the art world forever, to Malala Yousafzai, the brave teen who was shot for advocating education for girls, the 50 kids profiled in Never Too Young! will inspire and empower young readers. Some, like Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges, and Stevie Wonder, are prominent figures, while others are lesser known though their achievements are just as compelling. They come from a variety of historical periods and backgrounds, and have made an impact in politics, sports, the arts, science, and more.”

Review

Never Too Young! 50 Unstoppable Kids Who Made a Difference is an easily digestible nonfiction book for children looking for inspiration. I think it can be difficult for people to feel as though what they do every day could really make a difference on a national or even global scale. But, this book featuring fifty kids proves that you’re never too young to make a difference.

I really enjoyed the format of this book, allowing kids to open to any spread and learn about a change-maker. Each spread includes an illustration framed in a beautiful and unique style for each kid. And then, on the opposite side, just a few paragraphs introducing you to the kid and what they did to make a difference.

The author spent a lot of time creating a unique mix of well-known names and other names I had never heard before. She was also cognizant of balancing the kids – from all backgrounds, geographic locations, races, cultural identities, etc. Plus, the kids have made a difference in a variety of areas including sports, entertainment, science, art, politics and more. A lot of care and thought was put into creating this title. This allows for even more kids to find someone of interest in the book. Plus, you don’t have to read something like this cover-to-cover. Making this a great title to suggest to kids who may be resisting longer chapter books or prefer reading nonfiction.

Final Thoughts

Pick this up if you’ve got a kid who is civically minded. Or if they’re looking for inspiration from people their own age making a difference in the world. You might not be raising the next Malala Yousafzai, but we could all use a few more unstoppable kids in this world!
