#blogbookaday: Sir Simon

Summary:  “Meet Sir Simon, Super Scarer. He’s a professional ghost who has been transferred to his first house. And just in time! He was getting tired of haunting bus stops and forests and potatoes. And to top it off, this house is occupied by an old lady — they’re the easiest to haunt!

But things don’t go as planned when it turns out a KID comes with this old lady. Chester spots Simon immediately and peppers him with questions. Simon is exasperated. . . until he realizes he can trick Chester into doing his ghost chores. Spooky sounds, footsteps in the attic, creaks on the stairs — these things don’t happen on their own, you know!

After a long night of haunting, it seems that maybe Chester isn’t cut out to be a ghost, so Simon decides to help with Chester’s human chores. Turns out Simon isn’t cut out for human chores either.

But maybe they’re both cut out to be friends…” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Sir Simon Spookington has haunted all sorts of things, but now he’s got the job of a lifetime – a haunted house for an old lady! What Sir Simon doesn’t know is that there is also a small boy moving in as well! Chester wants to try out being a ghost and Sir Simon helps Chester out and they become close friends!

Personal Reaction: I love Cale Atkinson’s artwork, especially in his books To the Sea and Explorers of the Wild. I really like the way Cale often takes the perspective of two different characters and allows the reader to see how they are different, but often very much the same too. Sir Simon is no different, as you learn about Sir Simon the ghost and Chester the little boy – who both have chores and enjoy similar things. This is the perfect story to read during the Halloween season with a close look at ghost haunting and ghost chores. I wouldn’t be surprised if your little readers spend some time practicing their own ghost chores after reading Sir Simon!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
